How a little less sleep can change your behaviour

Did you just snap at your partner? Or didn't understand the big deal about something they liked?

Your sleep habits could be the reason.

This is what a new study revealed:

They took a group of people and showed them a large number of images, which the group found to be "pleasant" or "neutral".

Then they took that group and "sleep restricted" them for 5 days, by making them sleep around 5 hours per night.

When they tested the group's "opinion" of the 90 pictures, most of the group started perceiving those pictures as "negative" (those same pics they saw as "pleasant" or "neutral" before they were sleep restricted).

There are hundreds of studies which demonstrate how "sleep deprivation" can alter emotions and behaviour, but this is the first study which demonstrates that even "sleep restriction" can have a profound effect on how you perceive the world (more negative), which likely leads to changes in your behaviour.
