Do you think a single cigarette per day is safe? Think again!
A new study published in the British Medical Journal looked at the health effects of various smoking habits: it investigated whether there are major differences in health risks between heavy smokers and those who smoked 1 or 2 cigarettes per day.
This was a "metastudy": a review of a number of large studies (141 studies to be exact!) so the odds of being wrong about this are almost 0.
The study found that A SINGLE cigarette per day leads to:
- 74% increase in risk of cardiovascular disease (heart disease) in men!!
- 119% increase in risk of cardiovascular disease (heart disease) in women!!!
- 30% increase in risk of stroke in both men and women
That's from ONE SINGLE cigarette per day!
