Are you doing what you’re supposed to do? Then stop!
/What is “normal”?
To the vast majority of people on this planet, “normal” is:
- Get a college degree
- Make career choices
- Get a good job
- Get promoted
- Get promoted
- Get promoted
- Get married
- Start a family
- Buy a house
- Save
- Save
- Save
- Attempt to make “extra” money
- Get promoted
- Put kids through school and college
- Be a good spouse and parent
- Have fun in life
- Stay fit and healthy
- Retire
- Enjoy retirement
I hate normal. I despise normal. Normal is… ordinary. Who wants to be ordinary?!
I’m not saying “normal” things are bad! Quite the contrary: they are good! They are essential! But to me, the list above comprises the MINIMUM achievements to strive for.
When I look back at my life (hopefully decades from now), the question I’m going to ask myself is: did I leave my “mark” on this planet?! Did I create long-standing memories of my existence which will survive my life for generations?!
I want an “extraordinary” life! But don’t’ get me wrong, I’m not saying everyone’s “destiny” should help ease world hunger: you can be an “extraordinary” person and “leave you mark” on this planet in absolutely ANYTHING you do: you just need to find and ignite that fire to DO SOMETHING, ANYTHING that will leave a mark.
You can leave a mark by thousands of ways. Here are some ideas:
- Inspiring and mentoring others
- Teaching
- Creating art, music, writing, etc.
- Being the “pinnacle/role model” parent not just to your own children, but to other parents!
- Starting a series of successful businesses
- Radically transforming the company you work for
- Donating your time to help others
- Being source of joy and laughter for others
- Being a good listener and confidant
You can chose one of these or come up with hundreds of new ones. The sky is the limit. But you have to make a conscious effort, daily, weekly, monthly and yearly do WORK on your passion.
Just – please – don’t just do “what you’re supposed to do”, don’t be “normal”, don’t be “ordinary”.
